SMALLER SPACES. SMARTER WORKDAYS.

A calmer desk, one cable at a time

A clean-looking setup should still be easy to maintain. The goal is to keep cables safe, accessible and out of your way.

Map the connections first

List each device and where its cable goes. Separate power, display and accessory connections in your notes. Remove unused cables instead of hiding them under the desk. Label both ends when several cables look identical.

Choose a place for the power strip

Keep it accessible, dry and ventilated. Check its electrical rating against connected equipment and follow its instructions. Do not chain power strips together. A cable tray organizes equipment; it does not increase the power available from an outlet.

Match the mounting method to the desk

Screw-mounted trays need suitable material and safe screw depth. Clamp-mounted trays need a compatible desktop edge and thickness. Adhesive mounts need a clean compatible surface and may loosen under heat or weight; they may also mark the finish. Check the desk and organizer manufacturers’ instructions before attaching anything.

Bundle loosely

Reusable hook-and-loop ties let you add or remove a cable without cutting a plastic tie. Leave gentle bends and avoid pinching connectors. Keep cables away from sharp edges, moving mechanisms and places where feet or chair wheels can catch them.

Allow for standing desks

If your desk moves, check the full range before securing cables. The cables need enough slack at the highest position and a safe route at the lowest position. Keep people and objects clear of the desk mechanism during this check.

Finish with access in mind

Place a charging lead where you can reach it without pulling the whole bundle. Keep frequently unplugged connections near the edge. After a few days, reopen and adjust the ties where necessary.

Quick maintenance checklist

  • No cable is stretched, crushed or trapped.
  • Power equipment has the ventilation its instructions require.
  • The desktop can move without pulling a plug.
  • You can identify and disconnect each device.
  • Nothing hangs into the chair or walking route.
