SMALLER SPACES. SMARTER WORKDAYS.

Build a better desk in a small space

You do not need a large room to create a useful home office. Start with the space you actually have, then add only what helps you work comfortably.

1. Measure the working area

Record the desktop’s width and depth, the space underneath it, and the distance to a power outlet. Note doors, drawers and walking routes. Include room to move your chair and get in and out comfortably. These measurements are more useful than a product photo that makes every desk look spacious.

2. Choose your main working position

Place your keyboard and mouse where your arms feel relaxed and your feet can rest securely. Then arrange the screen so you can read it without leaning forward. Screen position depends on your vision, display size and tasks; avoid buying a stand simply because it looks tidy.

3. Keep the center clear

Give your everyday work a dedicated area. Put less-used accessories along the back edge or on a nearby shelf. A small tray can hold a notebook or headset without turning the whole desktop into storage.

4. Use vertical space carefully

A monitor arm can free desk space, but only if the arm fits the screen and desktop. Check the screen weight, VESA pattern, clamp thickness range and clearance behind the desk. If the desk manufacturer does not allow clamps, consider a compatible freestanding riser instead.

5. Route cables around movement

Group cables by destination and use reusable ties that are easy to reopen. Leave slack where a chair, laptop or adjustable desk moves. Keep plugs accessible and power equipment ventilated. Do not attach a tray where it will hit your knees.

6. Buy one improvement at a time

Try the arrangement for several normal workdays. Notice the problem you repeat most often: reaching for the mouse, searching for a charger, moving clutter or struggling with glare. Choose the next accessory to solve that specific problem.
